Sing Him A New Song
August 27, 2011
SCRIPTURE: We will celebrate and rejoice with you. We will praise your expressions of love more than wine. Rightly do they love you. [Songs of Solomon 1:4, GWT and NRSV]
QUOTE: We can never know God as it our privilege to know Him by brief repetitions that are request for personal favors and nothing more. E. M. Bounds
THOUGHT: Effective prayer is not “self-centered”.
COMMENTARY: Richard Wurmbrand, Watchmen Nee and many others interpret the Songs of Solomon as an allegory. Jesus is the KING. Solomon is simply a symbol or type. Note the three words in blue…celebrate, rejoice and praise. When subjects [women of the harem] were invited into the kings chambers, they did not talk about themselves nor make petitions. Study the LORD’s prayer: what is missing. There is no ‘I’ or ‘me’ in the LORD’s prayer. In the presence of the King of kings, we praise, we rejoice and we celebrate. There is a time for intercession as in the case of Esther and there is a time for supplication such as Jesus in Gethsemane but we should begin our prayers with praise and adoration.
EXTRA: There are many mysteries in the world such as how the Bumble Bee flies with its huge body and tiny wings or why frogs don’t bump their butt when they hop or how the ant can carry six times its own weight but the mystery of mystery is how Colbert Heights can be 2-A, dress 75 players and always have a running back that is 6’2″, weights 230 and runs the 40 in 4.5 seconds. They have the absolute worse P.A. person that I have ever heard. This guy would put Jim Fyffe in the shade. You would have to hear this turkey to believe that I am not misrepresenting the truth.
