SCRIPTURE: Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

QUOTE: Haste makes waste. Ben Franklin

THOUGHT: In some things God is slow. He is slow to get angry and for that we must be thankful.

COMMENTARY: I have many faults but the one thing that most probably harms my quality of life is my haste. I get in too big of a hurry and I miss the details and opportunities of the moment. The problem with living in the fast lane is that the speed consumes your convictions and you get caught up in the secondary aspects of life to the neglect of what is most important. This is the pitfall of ministry. We get so caught up in doing ministry that we neglect our own spiritual growth. My problem is not staying busy: my problem is choosing the best over the good. I’m not saying that we never need to hurry: James said be quick to listen but he also said be slow to speak and be slow to get angry. That is two slows and one quick. In the case of an emergency, you may need to be quick but when it comes to living life, most of us need to slow down because we are moving too fast.

EXTRA: Speaking of slowing down, LORD willing I am going for a bike ride this morning. This is the first Saturday since the West Virginia trip that I have had the time. Football season is underway. Seth played a scrimmage game with Brewer last night and Big L has his initial game today. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading the blog.
