Today Is Not Just Another Day

August 7, 2012

SCRIPTURE:  Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. [James 4:13-14, NLT]

QUOTE:  Intellectually we all know that we will die, but we do not really know it in the sense that the knowledge becomes a part of the way we live each day. We do not know it in the sense of living as though it were true. On the contrary, most of live as though our lives [physical] would go on forever.” ~Frederick Buechner

COMMENTARY: Francis Chan says, “The only people that will think about their kidney’s today are those who have problems with their kidneys.” Hey, kidneys are vital but most of us take them for granted. It is easy to think of today as just another day but it is not just another day. What if today was your last day? We get in a habit of spending most of our days on our self. We give more consideration to ourself than to anyone else including God. Have you ever noticed how differently people live who have been told by the doctors that they have x-months to live. I’ve seen some get more life out of a year than others have in 90. Don’t take today for granted. Plan right now to do at least one act of kindness that does not reward you in some way. It might be that you need to do something anonymously or for someone who cannot give anything back. Try to one thing that is totally unselfish. Hey, it is going to be a challenge. It is not as easy as you think.

EXTRA: I was at the hospital most to the day yesterday and Joe David and I are headed for Nashville this morning. Thomas Pickens came through his surgery fine and should get to come home sometime today. They are planning to surgery on Jonathan and Emily Alred’s baby today. Also remember Gregg and his mom. We had a great offering Sunday and almost broke the 300 mark again. I thought sure the phone tree message would get a few extra but that aint happening; it is going to take a revival. CHICK-FIL-A work night tomorrow.
