Hope’s pastor at the FOUNDRY is Bro. Bill and he always has an inspiring message. We got in so late last night that I decided to share his outline. His message was based on the life of Joshua.

  • Confront the Enemy.
  • Overcome the Obstacles.
  • Understand the Risks.
  • Rely on God for every need.
  • Always be ready to serve.
  • Go the Distance.
  • Expect the Best.

Hope looks great. Thank you for your prayers and for the cards. Pray for God to give her wisdom.

Scripture

When they finish proclaiming their message, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will fight against them. He will defeat them and kill them, and their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, where their Lord was crucified.

~Revelation 11:7, GNT

Quote

If we are fearful about dying physically, there is little chance we will have the courage to die spiritually [to sin and self].

~Ya’akov

my-thoughts-red

The two witnesses mentioned in Revelation 11 are prophets in the mold of Moses and Elijah. In John’s vision God sent two witnesses dressed in sackcloth to proclaim God’s message for 1,260 days. These witnesses or prophets are under divine protection; no one has the ability to harm them until their mission is complete.

Once their mission is complete, Satan makes war on them and kills them. The world celebrates their death. To show their lack of respect, they leave the bodies of the two prophets in the street to rot. The world mocks their death and disgrace. But after 3 1/2 days, the Ruach of God breathes new life into their bodies and they rise. Then they here a voice from heaven calling, “Come up here!” Suddenly they ascend heavenward and disappear in a cloud. After they are gone, all hell breaks lose.

Three quick lessons:

  1. You are not going to die until your mission is complete. You are under divine protection.
  2. When you die, you are not going to stay dead. You will hear the voice and you will rise. Physical death is an illusion: it appears final but it is not. Death is not the final sleep; it is the final awakening. {Sir Walter Raleigh}
  3. Seek neither more nor less than God’s will for your life. {Chip Ingram}

  • Our Grace Ministry Guatemala offering stands at $20,791.31. This means we need three consecutive offering of $2,500 or more. This means we need a miracle. For those who are giving, it is time to pray. One way or the other, we need divine intervention. I am not going to worry and I am not going to brow-beat. I am going to pray.
  • I noticed some new names on our pray list this week; people who are battling cancer. Also remember those in the hospital: Buford Burgess and Roylean Lewis.
  • Kane did not have to get blood Monday but he may go in Thursday {Huntsville}.
  • The Deacons elected Adam Glenn to be their chairman several weeks back and yesterday via teleconference, Jerry Wayne Segars was elected as chairman of the Budget Committee. Their first meeting is Wednesday night January 6. They will meet at 6:45, right after the GATHERING.
  • I will be on light duty for awhile. I go see Dr. Ward today so I may know more tomorrow. I can still sit, thank goodness but my walking is restricted. I only move when necessary. LORD willing I will be at the Gathering but definitely no standing. We are going to have to find my stool. Sunday night I could stand better than sit. The back is a strange thing.

SCRIPTURE

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.

~Joshua 1:7

my thoughts red

Think of God’s words to Joshua as a pep talk before a big game. Imagine, if you will: I am the football coach of the Danville Hawks and we are playing Slauderdale County. My pre-game speech goes something like this–“OK guys let’s get fired up. Their offensive line averages 275 but you know the old saying, the bigger they are, the harder they fall: just don’t let them fall on you. Their QB is 6’5′ and runs the 40 in 4.3. He has already received offers from every school in the SEC West except Missouri and Texas A&M and he is just a junior. This team that we are about to face is bigger than we are, they are faster than we are and they have more talent but football is a mental game and if we think positive, we can win this game. We just have to believe in ourselves.” The guys are going, “Yeah, right: we might have a chance if they all came down with swine flu in the next fifteen minutes.”

But if you will, imagine a second scenario: Your coach is not Jack Bailey {a pot bellied 66 year old that runs the 40 in 12.1 and has never coached a football team in his life}; your coach is Clark Kent. Yes, I am talking about the guy from Krypton who has a huge S on his blue fruit of the looms. Here is Coach K’s pre-game. “Boys, you are out weighted by 50 pounds per man and they are not only bigger, they are faster and have superior athletic ability but this is what we are going to do. I am going to dress out and play with you. In effect, I am going to become one of you. I am not sending you out to face them, I am leading you out. I will be on the field with you every single down and we will win. I personally will see to it that we win. They are fast but I can fly. They can run but I can run over. They are strong but I am stronger. We will win! I assure you: not because you are superior but because I am.”

Jesus does not send us out, He leads us out. He told Joshua, For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. No man will be able to prevail against you all the days of your life. That sounds like a guaranteed victory to me.

EXTRA

  • I have the BLOCK PARTY fever. You would think by now I would be use to it but I am excited and anxious.
  • MASS VISITATION tonight. We are going to do about the same thing as last year but not quite the same. No time limit, no convocation after visitation. If you get engaged don’t worry about making more stops. We will be handing out flyers about the BLOCK PARTY and Awana. Everyone can do it; there is nothing to it.
  • Tomorrow is the Memorial for Mike Hooper and we are hosting a meal for Sarah and family at the parlor. We love Sarah and her family and we want to express that love in a tangible way. She has been through a lot but she has handled it like a trooper.
  • We begin sitting up for the BLOCK PARTY tomorrow [August 13] at 5:00. We will begin with the GRACE BARN which will be in the FORTE.
  • We are replacing a sewage line between the sanctuary and the North lawn. It should be completed by tonight. We wanted to get it fixed before we start paving.

The Revelation

SCRIPTURE

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain. Worthy is the Lamb to receive authority and wealth and wisdom and greatness and honor and glory and praise.

~Revelation 5:12, The VOICE

QUOTE

It is Christ who is to be exalted, not our feelings. We will know Him by obedience, not by emotions. Our love will be shown by obedience, not by how good we feel about God at a given moment.

~Elisabeth Elliot

my two cents worth.

I finished reading the Revelation of Jesus Christ yesterday in the VOICE. I don’t know how many times I have read the Revelation but it doesn’t seem to help; I understand very little. There is no danger in me writing on the subject of prophecy. There are some impressions that do get stronger each time I read these mysterious chapters.

  1. First and foremost, The LAMB {Jesus Christ} is the ultimate Victor.
  2. There will be an intense struggle between good and evil between now and the end.
  3. During this time of struggle, there will be temptation, trails, suffering, persecution and even set backs as the devil makes an all out effort to defeat the LAMB. He will unleash his fury as the clock ticks down.
  4. Things will get worse before we see the final outcome.
  5. Catastrophic things are going to happen toward the end.
  6. There is a day in the future when God will unleash His wrath against all who have rejected His Son. They slapped Him in the face, they plucked out His beard, that spit in His face, they mocked, ridiculed, stripped Him, beat Him unmercifully, nailed Him to a cross and then laughed at Him as He suffered but there will be a pay-day for all Christ haters.
  7. The final battle will not be a struggle: Christ will put down all foes with the power of His presence and the breath of His mouth. He will not break a sweat. It will be a no-doubter from the get go.

What does Air Florida Flight 90, Air Ontario Flight 1363 and Continental Flight 3407 have in common? All three crashed from an ice build up on the wings. For modern jets to stay in the air, they must have a way to keep the ice from building up on the wings. They do this by having foils on the wings that deflate in inflate. If these systems fail and ice builds up on the wings, the plane will eventually go down from the weight of the ice. Sin works in a similar fashion, one of these days the sheer weight of our sin is going to take us down.

My Song Is To The Eternal

September 17, 2013

Prayer For REVIVAL in America

Prayer For REVIVAL in America

SCRIPTURE

My song is to the Eternal; He is my strength, and He brought me victory; this is my God, I will thank Him, my father’s God and I will exalt Him.

~Exodus 15:2, Moffatt

QUOTE

Praise is the privilege of the redeemed and it will be their employment for ever.

~Albert Barnes

COMMENTARY

The above verse comes from the song of Moses who was filled with ecstatic praise after seeing the miracle of the Red Sea. I didn’t see a parting of waters but I did see a lot of water. When I got back to the apartment and read Exodus 15:2, I thought this expresses the way I feel right now. I want to join Moses is exalting the Eternal, He is my song, my strength and my victory. He is good and worthy of praise.

EXTRA

We had a good day; got rained out about 4:00 I think. We got five houses framed in. I just hope the rain don’t keep us from returning today. I had a good team: Jason, David, Mandy and Renee. Everyone is having a good time. I have a feeling that Mandy and Renee will be back; they had a blast. Everyone worked hard and everyone was tired and hungry when we got back to the Mission House. Jason wants to start a fund to buy GRACE MINISTRIES a army surplus helicopter. One that can transport a team of 20 from the airport and then up into the mountains. The Mission House is at 6,000 and yesterday we went another 3,000 or more. The air was thin and that is hard on an old fat man. The internet is in and out so you may or may not get a blog everyday. Dena took a picture of a little boy wearing a BAMA cap that we had given him. I don’t know how the Chloe bug pic got in there. I did not mean to do it and of course you don’t believe a word I am saying.

Fear Not, Falter Not

June 29, 2013

Prayer For REVIVAL in America

Prayer For REVIVAL in America

SCRIPTURE: “Fear not, falter not before this vast army; it is for God, not for you, to fight them.” {II Chronicles 20:15, Moffatt}

QUOTE: Show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I’ll show you someone who overcame overwhelming odds.  ~Doctor Lou

COMMENTARY: Life can present some intimidating circumstances; things that leave us feeling overwhelmed, shocked and afraid. When Jehoshaphat got word that three nations had allied against him, he was afraid. Three to one has never been good odds. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the three nations were kinsfolk. Ammon and Moab were descendants of Lot and the Edomites were Esau’s descendants. The LORD did not permit Israel to attack any of the three as they came out of Egypt because they were relatives. So Jehoshaphat is both shocked and afraid: he feels both betrayed and bullied.

What do we do in the midst of intimidating circumstances? How do we cope when the odds are against us? First we give thanks that we have the scripture to guide us. As we look into the word of God, we see clearly what our game plan should be.

  1. We pray! Jehoshaphat not only prayed privately, he called a national prayer meeting. He decreed a day of prayer and fasting for all Judah and had them gather in Jerusalem for a prayer conference. So when faced with intimidating circumstances, we pray and there is always added power when we come together to pray.
  2. We seek a word from the LORD. In Jehoshaphat’s case, the word came from a Levite named Jehaziel [Beheld of God], a descendant of Asaph who was David’s minister of music in Jerusalem. Asaph served David and Solomon in leading the praise and worship at Jerusalem. I don’t know if Jehaziel was the Minister of Music or just a member of the Levitical Choir but God spoke to him and gave him a message for king and country: “Fear not, falter not, before this vast horde. The LORD is going to fight this battle and you will be His witnesses.”
  3. We obey! We do exactly as the LORD commands.  Jehaziel said,  “The Battle is the LORD’s”but that did not mean that the men of Judah could stay at home, watch TV and play video games. God’s demands that we exercise our faith and we cannot be His witnesses unless we join the battle and see His salvation first hand. Obedience is our way of demonstrating our faith. Jehoshaphat lead his army to battle but he had the choir in front praising God for the victory. Putting your choir in front of your infantry, demonstrates a lot of faith, amen!
  4. We stand! Note verse 17… Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”
  5. We gather the spoils! If we are faithful to pray, seek God’s will, demonstrate our faith in obedience and take a stand…God will give victory and we will be busy gathering the “Enormous booty” [Moffatt]. It took the men of Judah three days to gather the spoils of war and they never fired a shot. The three armies killed each other before the men of Judah arrived.

EXTRA: God is good. We got our Marine home and then our cheerleaders had to ship out for a month. Smyrna, Tennessee is a beautiful town but I prefer Hartselle, actually, I prefer Danville. The traffic on I-65 was heavy I thought but on I-24 it was much worse. I was actually glad to get back to I-65. Another beautiful day weather wise. My new tomatoes are looking good. If anyone is running short on mosquitos we have a million or two we will share. All the rain water I have saved is not helping. I have to be sprayed up to go to the garden.

Remember a couple of changes tomorrow: NO DEACON’S MEETING but I do want to meet with MATTHEWS  at 8:45 in Sanctuary. I’ll have donuts there about 8:30.

The Bailey sisters are having a yard sale at IRONMAN TODAY! Mylee and Ryder are running a lemonaid stand and selling BIG MAMA BROWNIES. I know that would appreciate the business and they need the money.
