The Mystery of Prayer

Scripture

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
~Matthew 7:7-8, NLT

Quote

The law of prayer is to ask.
~George W. Truett

Although Satan uses distractions, he does not want us to understand that we are being distracted. If we understand that he is behind the distraction, he loses his advantage.

Satan loathes and fears believers who pray. Any sincere pray offered by believers bothers Satan. He does not want us praying. Anemic prayers, good prayers, short prayers, long prayers, any prayer is bad as far as the devil is concerned. He does not mind us talking about prayer, reading books on prayer so long as we don’t pray. His approach is to discourage us from prayer by raising an endless questions that we cannot answer.

How does prayer work? Why would an infinite God who dwells in eternity listen to the prayer of a finite human in time? If God is sovereign, how can our prayer affect His will? How can He listen to thousands of us praying at the same time? How in the world can the human prayer of today affect the weather of tomorrow? We have answers to none of the above questions. Prayer is a mystery. It is something that we are to do in spite of the fact that we do not understand how it works. One does not have to understand the dynamics of electricity to flip a light switch.

Do we know how to pray? Do we understand prayer? No, but I will pray every day. Don’t let Satan keep your from prayer. He will do everything he can to keep you out or your prayer closet. Many times, the devil has said to me, “You can’t pray, you don’t even know how.” My response is–“You may be right but I am going to pray anyway.”

  • We had two deaths in Danville yesterday: Sammy Crow departed this life at 3:15 pm at HH. Then we found out last night that Billy Laney’s son, James McAbee [45] was killed in an accident on 157. He was driving a tractor on 157 and got run over by an 18 wheeler. Sammy Crow [73] had a stroke Tuesday morning and never recovered. Sammy is survived by his wife Kathy, two sons, Bryan and Brett, two sisters and his mom who depended on Sammy for a lot of things. This is a shocking blow to the Danville community and the Crow family.
  • I had two places to be this morning and they were 200 miles a part but the LORD heard despairing cry and sent a helper to Columbia, Tennessee to pick up Seth who has been to summer camp.
  • I’ve been behind all week: can’t get caught up. Shohn will be carrying Clara to B’town to the doctor and I will be in an out, mostly out. Call my cell if you need me.

Satan

Scripture

When the day came for the heavenly beings to appear before the LORD again, Satan was there among them.

~Job 2:1, GNT

Quote

There are two extremes that we must avoid in relationship to Satan: one is to disbelieve in his existence and the other is to become obsessed with his person and power.

~Ya’akov

I was reading in Job 2 yesterday morning when three words exploded in my mind, “Satan was there.” God called a meeting of the heavenly beings and Satan was there among them. Isn’t that just like him, the diabolical intruder always showing up when he hasn’t been invited. When brothers and sisters in Christ gather for worship, Satan is there among them. Have a REVIVAL meeting and Satan will show up. Have a business meeting and Satan is there. Plan a prayer meeting and Satan will try to get it stopped but if that failed, he will show up, he will be there. He is always there.

I have no intention of saying anything good about the devil but I will tell you what I know. First of all, he is an angel, a fallen angel: he is not God, he is simply a want-to-be god. He is antichrist and he hates anyone who worships Jesus. Thus he hates all believers and does everything in his power to destroy our bodies, reputations, witness, testimony, joy, confidence, integrity and courage.

Jesus has changed things forever, He came to destroy the works of the devil and He was successful. We who trust Him with our sin and shame will congregate in heaven in the not to distant future and Satan will not be there.

  • I saw something last night that I have never seen. In Ty’s game, a kid grounds out to first and made a home run. Normally, that would be impossible but it happens. The kid was out by three steps and the ump called him safe, then we commit a comedy of errors and the kid scores. The P.A. announcer [probably his mom] said, “Home run for Tommy, winner of a Firehouse Sub.”

Antichrist

February 23, 2016

Scripture

Then a herald shouted out, “People of all races and nations and languages, listen to the king’s command!  When you hear the sound….of music, bow to the ground to worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s gold statue.”

~Daniel 3:4-5, NLT

Quote

‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’

~Lucifer [Shinning Star]

The devils prideful ambition is to be God. In truth, he is a fallen angel  evicted from heaven and cast down to earth. He is not just a fallen angel, he is a mad angel. He is infuriated at being ousted from heaven where he very much wanted to be the center of attention. A big part of his desire to be God is that he has a craving to be worshipped. He even tempted Jesus to fall down and worship him. Eventually, he will empower the antichrist to do wonders that will amaze the world and in return, the antichrist will be worshipped.

Understand there have been hundred’s of antichrist [people that fit the type] such as king Nebuchadnezzar. The man wanted all nations and languages to fall down and worship himself. He went into a devil like fit of rage when the Hebrews boys refused to bow. Nebuchadnezzar wanted the glory that belongs to God and God alone. In order to get the glory, he had to become the object of worship.

It is this prideful lust for glory that gets us in trouble. We want to be the center; we want everything to revolve around us. We crave praise and recognition but we do not deserve either. Praise, honor, glory and worship belong to the LORD.

I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to anyone else, nor share my praise with carved idols.  {Isaiah 42:8}

  • We made February 22nd our Holiday instead of the 16th. George Washington’s birth date should be a national holiday. If we had the gumption to flush the stinky toilet in Washington, we might  put General George where he belongs and that is the greatest president of all time. Ronald Reagan would be second or third; probably third.
  • I attended the girls game Monday and then locked my self in to prepare for the JBS at Sardis Springs. The girls ran into a hot shooting team. I think West Limestone, June’s alma Mata, missed only two free throws and less than ten three’s. They didn’t miss many.
  • Extra from the Imprimis: J. Paul Getty was a miser and a cheapskate who made visitors to his estate use a pay phone he had installed in his mansion even though he was one of the richest men in the world. When his 17 year old grandson was kidnapped in Italy and held for $17 million ransom, the dickered over the amount until the kidnappers mailed him his grandson’s ear. Even then Getty refused to pay. He did loan his son [the boys father] the $17 million but made him pay it back at an interest rate of 4%.

Rejoice

February 9, 2016

celebrate-jesus-crimsonjpg

Scripture

Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell there.

~Revelation 12:12, ERV

Quote

The things that I long to be free of–guilt, shame, fear, greed, lust, impurity–are all related to sin.

~Ya’akov

Therefore is a connecting word. To understand verse 12, you have to read the verses prior: Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon (devil) and his angels. And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.

Did you catch that: the devil has been evicted from heaven, he was forced out and thrown down. The good news is; no devil in heaven. The bad news is that he was cast down to earth and he came here in a rage. He is angry at God for evicting him from heaven. He has lost the battle in heaven and he lacks the power to enter into the presence of God. He cannot touch God so he goes after God’s children here on earth. This is not a reason to fear, he cannot get to you without going through Jesus.

The ancient serpent, the accuser of the brethren, the adversary, the deceiver of the nations has brought the fight to this world because he could not conquer heaven. He vents his anger toward the Church, the body of Christ. He spews out a river of venomous propaganda in an effort to destroy the body of Christ. He is angry, desperate and losing power. In other words, eventually, he will fizzle out. His best days are behind him while our best days lie ahead.

During the meal, Lou said to me, “That was a good service this morning. I especially liked Brad Paisley singing the Old Rugged Cross.” I think every woman at the table echoed her sentiments. I am here to tell you, the Senior Adult women like Brad Paisley: we are going to have to have him back.

Life’s Mission

December 2, 2015

celebrate-jesus-crimsonjpg

Scripture

When they finish proclaiming their message, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will fight against them. He will defeat them and kill them, and their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, where their Lord was crucified.

~Revelation 11:7, GNT

Quote

If we are fearful about dying physically, there is little chance we will have the courage to die spiritually [to sin and self].

~Ya’akov

my-thoughts-red

The two witnesses mentioned in Revelation 11 are prophets in the mold of Moses and Elijah. In John’s vision God sent two witnesses dressed in sackcloth to proclaim God’s message for 1,260 days. These witnesses or prophets are under divine protection; no one has the ability to harm them until their mission is complete.

Once their mission is complete, Satan makes war on them and kills them. The world celebrates their death. To show their lack of respect, they leave the bodies of the two prophets in the street to rot. The world mocks their death and disgrace. But after 3 1/2 days, the Ruach of God breathes new life into their bodies and they rise. Then they here a voice from heaven calling, “Come up here!” Suddenly they ascend heavenward and disappear in a cloud. After they are gone, all hell breaks lose.

Three quick lessons:

  1. You are not going to die until your mission is complete. You are under divine protection.
  2. When you die, you are not going to stay dead. You will hear the voice and you will rise. Physical death is an illusion: it appears final but it is not. Death is not the final sleep; it is the final awakening. {Sir Walter Raleigh}
  3. Seek neither more nor less than God’s will for your life. {Chip Ingram}

SCRIPTURE

Then he put another parable before them. “The kingdom of Heaven,” he said, “is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while his men were asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the crop came up and ripened, the weeds appeared as well. Then the owner’s servants came up to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where did all these weeds come from?

~Matthew 13:24-27, J.B. Phillips

QUOTE

Subtlety deceives, that is its nature. Integrity wishes to be fully known.

~Jack Cromwell

my thoughts red

The weeds in our garden are related to the curse; to Adams transgression. There were no weeds until Adam sinned. Can you imagine a garden or flower bed without weeds. Every Spring, I plant seeds in my garden which come up but so do the weeds and I do not plant them. Gardening would be easy if it were not for weeds. A garden is not the issue, the parable above is about the devil sowing tares {Weeds} among the wheat. There are tares in every congregation and we can’t pull them up. As a matter of fact, we cannot identify them to pull them up. Jesus instructed us to leave them alone until harvest and then His Holy Angels will sort them out.

I can assure the devil is not going to allow anything we do to be easy. He is our perpetual antagonist, our adversary and accuser. Praise the LORD, his days are numbered. No weeds in heaven.

Sin and Insecurity

April 10, 2015

Celebrate Jesus.crimsonjpg

SCRIPTURE

When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.

~Genesis 3:8, NLT

QUOTE

Sin is a perverse distortion of the image of the Creator in us. All these good things, and all our security, are rightly found only and completely in Him [Jesus].

~Augustine

my thoughts red

Fear or insecurity is at the root of all human problems. When Adam and Eve transgressed, their fall gave them a severe spiritual concussion. If left them dazed and unable to think clearly. Eve’s basic sin was that she distrusted God. She believed the devil’s lie instead of God’s word. The devil convinced Eve that the fruit would make them more like God but it did the opposite. Adam and Eve became more distrustful of God and each other. When they heard God coming, they hid in the trees. Insecurity produces distrust and distrust harms relationships.

The devil did not create fear but he certainly uses it to terrorize, torment and enslave. Satan’s real power is the ‘lie’ and he is very cunning in the use of propaganda. Jacob the patriarch lived in the despairing darkness of a lie for 20 years because he took the word of his lying sons for the truth. Jesus is the antidote: Jesus is the truth and the truth speaker. He said, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Adam and Eve allowed their sin to drive them away from God and this is no solution to the sin problem. We can’t hide, cover or deny our sin and when we attempt to do either of the three, we make bad matters worse. The only remedy is to confess it to Jesus. There are three things  Jesus will take from you that no one else on earth wants. He will take your worries, your burdens and your sin. [Psalms 55:22, I Peter 5:7]

Inspired men inspire.

~Leonard Ravenhill

my thoughts red

What could Satan do with Paul? There’s not much he could do with a man who had narrowed his interest to one thing, knowing Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His suffering. Paul had no side issues so Satan had no way to distract him. He had no ambition so there was nothing to cause him jealously. Paul had no reputation so there was nothing for him to defend. He had no possessions so there was nothing for him to lose. He had no rights so there was no way he could be wronged. He was already broken so no one could break him. He was already dead so no one could kill him. He was the least of the least so no one could demote him. He had suffered the loss of all things so no one could defraud him. It’s no wonder Paul’s name was known in hell: he was a terror to The Terrorist [Satan].

What are these weak Jews doing? Do they think we will leave them alone? …They cannot bring stones back to life from these piles of trash and dirt…“What do these miserable Jews think they are building? If even a small fox climbed up on it, he would break down their wall of stones!”

~Nehemiah 4:2, ERV

QUOTE

The chief danger of the Church today is that it is trying to get on the same side as the world, instead of turning the world upside down. Our Master expects us to accomplish results, even if they bring opposition and conflict.

~A. B. Simpson

my thoughts red

Nehemiah’s mission was to build a wall around Jerusalem: Satan’s objective was to stop him. We must remember that Satan has no ethical boundaries–he plays by no rules. He is a creature of habit and some of his moves are predictable but he has no scruples. One of Satan’s favorite tools is ridicule. He uses ridicule to discourage us. Most people, no matter how well intentioned will quit given enough discouragement. The devil in not only ruthless, he is relentless.

Jesus Verses Lucifer

September 18, 2014

Celebrate Jesus.crimsonjpg

SCRIPTURE

In other words, adopt the mind-set of Jesus the Anointed. Live with His attitude in your hearts.

~Philippians 2:5, The VOICE

QUOTE

The follower of Christ must think like Christ, not of himself but for others and not for his glory but for God’s.

~William Barclay

my thoughts red

Lucifer’s mind-set is expressed in Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:11-19. If you study these passages, you will note the huge contrast between our beloved Savior and Lord and Lucifer who is also knows at Satan.

  • Jesus…”Thy will” be done…Lucifer “My will” be done.
  • Jesus humbled Himself…Lucifer exalted himself.
  • Jesus gave up a throne to become a servant…Lucifer shunned servant hood in pursuit of the throne.
  • Jesus was the Creator but willing to become a man…Lucifer was not satisfied to be a creature: he wanted to be Creator.
  • Jesus left heavens glory by His own free will to become a man and a sacrifice for our sins so we could go to heaven…Lucifer was kicked out of heaven because of his selfish ambition and sinful rebellion, then came to earth to infect as many as possible with the spirit of rebellion with the intention of damning us to hell.
  • Jesus emptied Himself as a benevolent giver…Lucifer grasp beyond his rights and became a thief and a taker.

Oh what a Savior! Oh Hallelujah
His heart was broken on Calvary,
HIs hands were nail scared: His side was driven,
He gave his life blood for you and me

He left the Father, with all his riches,
With calmness sweet and serene,
Came down from heaven and gave his life blood
To make the vilest sinner clean.
