QUOTE
Healthy relationships are not threatened by differences of opinion.
~Bill Mandrell
A difference of opinion does not constitute hate. Over the years June and I have had many disagreements but we don’t hate each other. Our taste are so different there are few things that we can watch on TV together. I don’t care for her shows and she doesn’t care for mine. It is no big deal. It is a trivial matter. Healthy relationships can survive and even thrive when there is a difference of opinion. June has never agreed with my road rules. If I am going somewhere and I am driving fast, it means I am in a hurry and probably late for something important: so if you are not in a hurry it probably means you aren’t doing anything important so pull off to side and let me pass. Don’t pull out in front of me, don’t ride your breaks in front of me and for Pete’s sake do not stop before you turn. Some folks drive like they are hauling eggs or nitro and they cause wrecks. June thinks I have a bad attitude so we have a difference of opinion when it comes to driving. In spite of what the ignorant left says, a difference of opinion is not a hate crime.
We were going somewhere and I came to an intersection: I said, “Is there anything coming from your direction?” She said, “Just pull out there and find out, you never wanted me to help before so why are you asking me now?” I said, “Because I am old and I can’t turn my neck.” I don’t hate her for being honest,: matter of fact I laughed. She cracked me up but it is not mutual. If she were to laugh at one of my jokes, I would probably die of shock.
The point is: everyone has an opinion. We do not need to get angry with people who disagree. We are to work for peace and harmony in our families and in our church.
- Keep your focus on Christ and His Kingdom.
- Don’t get side-tracked on trivial issues.
- Be kind to others and respect their opinion.
- When necessary, tell the truth in love.
