COMMENTARY
Darrell Gilyard, does that name ring a bell? Back in the late 80’s Darrell was a homeless person living under and interstate bridge in Jacksonville, Florida. Somehow he connected with the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville through one of their outreach ministries and later joined the church. He was mentored by Dr. Jerry Vines who was the pastor at the time. People were awed by Darrell’s communication skills and his unbelievable testimony, he became a flaming evangelist over night. He preached at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Jerry Falwell’s Old Time Gospel Hour and was even a featured speaker at the Southern Baptist Convention. I attended the Jacksonville Pastor’s conference the year Darrell made such a splash. One major problem, Darrell’s unbelievable testimony was fictitious, I guess that’s why it was unbelievable. He created the entire story, every thing about his story was fabricated. He was never homeless and he had prior theological training which explains why he learned so quickly. He was a huge embarrassment to Dr. Vines, the First Baptist Church and to all who had been deceived by the fraud.
Since that time, Darrell has refused to get out of the ministry even though he is now a convicted sex offender. Children cannot attend the church where he serves as pastor. Darrell is a gifted communicator but he has no integrity. It is vitally important that we be real. Integrity is everything.

- GRACE—God’s Riches At Christ Expense. The LORD is to be praised for both services yesterday. I am still in awe of the LORD’s mercy and grace. I was so tired when I got up yesterday morning that I wondered if I would make it through the day. Thank God for a Sabbath, I stayed in bed almost all Sunday evening, got up showered, ran by to see Peggy and came on to the evening service. It was one of the sweetest communion services that I have been a part of and we had a fantastic crowd. It is almost surreal. God is good! We want to thank Sheila for preparing the communion table. She has done this faithfully for the past 20 years.
- Mandy will be our host on the lunch tomorrow. Sheila had a prior commitment. It you want to help, call Mandy.
- The mid-week service will be normal, no hot dog supper for AWANA, no AWANA at all. We all meet together one more time. We will do Chick-Fil-A. Call the office by 10:00 am Wednesday if you want to eat Wednesday Night.
