SCRIPTURE

Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him, “You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.”

~Romans 3:4, NLT

QUOTE

We never grow up, not really, we just learn how to act in public.

~Bobby Stork

my thoughts red

It is impossible for God to lie [Hebrews 6:18] and it is impossible for us to be perfectly honest. Some folks think they are beyond lying but they are lying to themselves. All human miscommunicate the truth from time to time. After Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, where they honest with God about their sins? Abraham did not actually lie in what he said but he lead people to believe a lie which is as bad as lying. All deception is a form of lying and we are all guilty of deception. You don’t really get to know folks by going to church with them because church is where they put their best foot forward.

Folks, we have been programed to lie, it is our default setting. Like David, we will do whatever it takes to hid or cover our sins. If you want to find out what a person is made of, catch them in  error and watch them deny their sin or accuse them of something and brace yourself for their attack. Jesus was accused of things He had not done but He never opened His mouth.

Sin and Insecurity

April 10, 2015

Celebrate Jesus.crimsonjpg

SCRIPTURE

When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees.

~Genesis 3:8, NLT

QUOTE

Sin is a perverse distortion of the image of the Creator in us. All these good things, and all our security, are rightly found only and completely in Him [Jesus].

~Augustine

my thoughts red

Fear or insecurity is at the root of all human problems. When Adam and Eve transgressed, their fall gave them a severe spiritual concussion. If left them dazed and unable to think clearly. Eve’s basic sin was that she distrusted God. She believed the devil’s lie instead of God’s word. The devil convinced Eve that the fruit would make them more like God but it did the opposite. Adam and Eve became more distrustful of God and each other. When they heard God coming, they hid in the trees. Insecurity produces distrust and distrust harms relationships.

The devil did not create fear but he certainly uses it to terrorize, torment and enslave. Satan’s real power is the ‘lie’ and he is very cunning in the use of propaganda. Jacob the patriarch lived in the despairing darkness of a lie for 20 years because he took the word of his lying sons for the truth. Jesus is the antidote: Jesus is the truth and the truth speaker. He said, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” Adam and Eve allowed their sin to drive them away from God and this is no solution to the sin problem. We can’t hide, cover or deny our sin and when we attempt to do either of the three, we make bad matters worse. The only remedy is to confess it to Jesus. There are three things  Jesus will take from you that no one else on earth wants. He will take your worries, your burdens and your sin. [Psalms 55:22, I Peter 5:7]

The Wages Of Sin

April 7, 2015

Celebrate Jesus.crimsonjpg

SCRIPTURE

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

~Romans 6:23, NLT

QUOTE

Sin comes when we take a perfectly natural desire or longing or ambition and try desperately to fulfill it without God.

~Augustine

my thoughts red

Have you ever wondered how you can feel so convicted and so miserable after you sin when you were so indifferent before you sinned? If there was a way to reverse these conditions, temptation might be easier to resist. God’s word is our manual that spells out the consequences of sin. We have the written record of Adam and Eve’s transgression to learn from. David’s sins are posted for public review and so was Peter’s infamous denial of Christ. God’s word spells out the wages of sin but we sin anyway. If we could grasp the bitter wages of sin before we sinned, what a difference it would make. After the fact, we all recognize that sin is not worth the pain and misery it brings?

  • Today we pray for Teachers.
  • We had a pain free night of rest and that came after I sat up for most of the day. I still have trouble sitting under my desk but sitting in a comfortable chair is no problem, PTL. I may try to drive some today or maybe go to the office for a couple of hours. I am very thankful and I want to give all the glory to Jesus. I plan to begin my preparation for Wednesday night but we will have to see how it goes. One thing is certain: I don’t want to aggravate this nerve again.
  • GOLDEN GIRLS  is definitely on for Saturday; 9:00 am at Cracker Barrel. If I can’t make it, June is going to take care of it but I think it should be no problem unless things start going the other way.

SCRIPTURE

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.

~I John 1:8, NLT

QUOTE

One great power of sin is that it blinds men so that they do not recognize its true character.

~Andrew Murray

my thoughts red

How do we humans respond to our sin and guilt? If we do a through study of scripture we see several responses and none of them good. The first thing Adam and Eve did with their sin was attempt to cover it and then when God put the finger on them they tried to blame someone else. The Pharisees denied their sin all together–they proclaimed themselves sin-free. Eventually we came up with a subtle form of rationalizing our sin: we put the seal of approval on our sin because we have a just reason. I left my wife because she was not meeting my needs…I hate my neighbor because she told a lie on me….I don’t go to church because I don’t like the preacher…all these are excuses or rationalizations and they are unacceptable. There are over 300 churches in Morgan County and you can’t find one where you like the pastor. People who stay at home on Sunday because they don’t like the preacher are lying to themselves: it is not just the preacher that they have a problem with.

The only acceptable response to sin is to own up to it, confess it and seek the help of Christ to turn from it. We are not going to get victory over sin by refusing to call it what it is: name it, claim it and bring it to Jesus for execution.

  • I attended the SAV-A-LIFE banquet last night and it is probably my last one for several reasons. I will continue to support it financially because I think it is a good thing but there are some things I just cannot stomach. I’ll give you one example: You know me, I eat just about anything that doesn’t eat me first and last night I ate something that looked like dressing but they called in Pulau or something. I know one thing, Pulau and Jack are not a good mix. I would have faired better had I eaten a red onion uncooked. No more Pulau for me.
  • TODAY we prayer for the WORLD
  • Tonight we have a normal schedule with supper at 5:30 and AWANA at 6:15 and then our AWANA workers who have done a fantastic job this year will get a little rest. Our Fall Stew is Oct. 29 and the following week will be REVIVAL.
  • SAMARITAN PROJECT this Saturday: 7:30 am until. A trip to the park to pass out blankets, coats, etc.
  • Lisa and Steve Kelso’s son-in-law passed away late Monday evening at the age of 33. It was Ashley’s husband Levi. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Steve and his entire family. We consider them very good friends. I will let you know more when I know more. It could be a few days before the service.
  • We have an African A copula choir coming Sunday. Praise and worship will be normal. We may cut it a tad but not much. The choir will have my time. They want to stay in homes but I have told their leader that it will probably be a motel. If you are interesting in hosting a couple, let me know.

SCRIPTURE

The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

~Genesis 3:5-6, NASB

QUOTE

God knows sin experientially, without every having experienced it.

~Ronnie W. Rogers

my thoughts red

We humans get confused by time and space: perhaps time more than space. God is eternal and lives in the eternal present. He has no past or future. He is omniscient: He knows all; He sees all. God has never had a new thought: nothing occurs to Him and nothing surprises Him. God knew what sin would do to Adam and Eve and the human family and He gave them stern warning that the consequences would be grave. Adam and Eve did not listen to God, they listened to the serpent who promised them they would not die but become like God. Of course Satan lied but there was a bit of truth in what he said, Adam and Eve did know more about sin once they had tasted the fruit of disobedience.

They became more like God is the sense of knowing the horror of sin and seeing its destructive power. God already knew what sin would do, thus He forbid them to do it. Of course, in all other ways they became less like God. Because God has no insecurities, He gave Adam and Eve the freedom to choose and yes He knew what they would choose. God’s plan could not be accomplished through creation alone but through creation and redemption.

As a parent, you can lock your child in a padded room. Home school them, shelter them from the evil influences of the world. You could even escort them everywhere they go. You know the sting of sin so you can guard them and keep them for experiencing sin but what kind of child will you produce? He/she will not be mentally balanced for sure and I have my doubts that they would ever love you in a significant way. Our Father created us to love and worship Him. Making us free moral agents was the only way He could get the quality of love and worship He desired.

my two cents worth.

Every Spring and Fall when the weather changes, I get an upper respiratory infection {Common cold} and I go get shoots, feel lousy and take pills the size we use to give calves when they were sick. Joe Eaton talked me into taking a flu shots 25 years ago and I got the flu and have not taken one since but this cold every spring and fall is getting old. I ask the folks at Rite-Aid yesterday about the Flu Shoot. They said, “You can take it until you’ve been off of the anti-biotic for three days.” Cyndi, tell John I am running up the white flag. I am going to take a flu shot this year, LORD willing.

The Truth, I Think!

WWII Memorial

There is a story circulating on the internet that a WW II couple were visiting the memorial in Washington DC when she began reading this above plaque aloud. When she got to the end, she said, “They left part of his speech out, the part where he says, So help us God.” The National Parks Services or whomever was responsible did leave a huge portion of the speech out. Note the three dots after INFAMY: this means they skipped a portion…below is the speech in its entirety. Since I know that 90% of you will not read the entire text: I have highlighted to clauses in question. Let me make it perfectly clear that I agree with the message and sentiment of the email. They did engrave the line that is filled with humanist garbage which I am sure Roosevelt’s writers had inserted for that very purpose and they did leave out “So help us God,” which meant a lot more to the American people than it did Roosevelt. Roosevelt was a progressive and all progressives  and a humanist {Liberal} and they believe that the end justifies the means. I do agree with the little old lady in the internet version. They did leave out God and they did it for a reason.

Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy – the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. The United States was at peace with that nation and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with the government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleagues delivered to the Secretary of State a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack. It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time, the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. Very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu. Yesterday, the Japanese government also launched an attack against Malaya. Last night, Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night, Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night, the Japanese attacked Wake Island.

This morning, the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation. As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us.

No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. [word engraved]

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces – with the unbounding determination of our people – we will gain the inevitable triumph – so help us God.

I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, Dec. 7, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.

Prov.3.7

Relationships

May 1, 2013

A Billy Graham MY Hope cropped

SCRIPTURE: Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the Lord.” [Genesis 4:1, NKJV]

QUOTE: Divorce is not the problem…the problem is that we don’t know how to be married. ~Dallas Willard

COMMENTARY: The KJV says that Adam knew Eve but the word translated ‘knew’ does not refer to knowing her intimately. It is a reference to knowing her anatomy. The modern translations make the meaning clear…Now Adam had sexual relations with his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. You can know a woman in the Hebrew sense without knowing the woman. Adam touched her body but not her soul. The truth is, we cannot blame Adam completely for it was Eve who set this game of hide and seek in motion. When our ancient grandparents sinned, they became grossly insecure. This insecurity fouls up human relationships. The fall made us suspicious and distrustful of others. Our insecurity causes us to hide the truth even from those that we are joined to physically. How many husbands and wives carry secrets? Do secrets hurt relationships? How do you respond to those who do not trust you? You feel hurt, don’t you and then you respond in one of two ways: [1] You go on the assault or [2] You withdraw. Generally speaking, women are prone to assault and 99% of the time it is verbal. Men are prone to withdraw. They listen for a while and then they find somewhere to go or something to do. It may be golf, hunting, work or whatever but it is an excuse to withdraw. We just don’t want to deal with it. By nature, men are cowards: especially in the area of marital relationships.

How many couples do you know that can have a good honest discussion [argument] without the man leaving the room? How many do you know that have deep intimate conversations? How many marriages are like Adam and Eve’s, the bodies touch but not the souls? I am not a psychologist,  but Dallas Willard is [one time the Professor of Psychology at USC] and he agrees with me–Money is not the main issue in divorce. The number one problem is the lack of intimacy. These folks who say that money issues are the leading cause of divorce are false prophets who are trying to sell you their books, tapes and software. Willard is right and the money first crowd is wrong. I like Willard’s quote above but I would like to change it slightly, “Divorce is not the problem, the problem is we never get to know the person we married.”

SCRIPTURE: Do not kill the innocent and those in the right, for I will not acquit the guilty.  [Exodus 23:7, NRSV]

QUOTE: I do believe in the slippery slope theory. I believe that if people are careless and casual about life at the beginning of life, they will be careless and casual about life at the end. ~Dr. Ron Paul

COMMENTARY: When Adam and Eve bit into the fruit, they probably thought, “That wasn’t so bad, God said we would surely die and we are still alive.” Pride and sin are deceptive because in reality, they died the moment they ate: the sad part is that they didn’t know it. God always says what He means and means what He says: if He said, “In the day that you eat, you shall surely die,” then in the day that you eat, you will surely die. Adam and Eve died spiritually the instant they rebelled, they died progressively from that point on. With each passing day their physical death was more apparent. The curse became very real when they stood over the body of their righteous son Abel. Moses told the Israelites, “Be sure your sins will find you out,” and they will, every one of them. America made a fatal mistake in 1973 by legalizing abortion. I am convinced that it is as repulsive, if not more so, than the child sacrifice practiced by the ancient Canaanites and we should be well acquainted with God’s judgment upon them. We are going to pay for killing the unborn. We are paying now but the price is going to get higher.

EXTRA: Yahweh is Good! We continued our Holiday visitation yesterday and were blessed. We visited one of my sons in the ministry–Samuel Franklin Wallace and wife Brenda who live in Muscle Shoals. Sam is 75 but you can’t tell it. June says that he has not aged a bit. They have a beautiful home and its paid for, amen! We also visited Hollis and Stella Jarnigan who are in the Nursing Home in Muscle Shoals. They are old friends from Cherokee. We go to Athens today for June’s Cousin’s celebration of life service and then I may go to Cherokee tomorrow, LORD willing.

Tracey came through surgery good. She felt lousy yesterday but is supposed to come home today.
