Don’t Be Stupid

June 5, 2016

Don’t be stupid like a horse or a mule, which must be controlled with bit and bridle to make it submit.

Psalms 32:9, GNT

God loves obedience.

~Jim Nesbitt

There are two primary ways to learn, by instruction or experience. Many of us are like the horse and mule, we have to learn things the hard way. We learn by trial and error which can be very painful. There is a better way: follow God’s instruction with prompt obedience. The LORD will guide us daily if we will submit but the more we rebel, the greater our suffering. The way of the transgressor is hard. Your happiness in this life definitely depends on your obedience to God.

  • Great turn out for GOLDEN GIRLS. We had four of our regulars absent and still had ten. Our next meeting is July 2.
  • Harvested a bucket of squash yesterday. PTL
  • I think it is safe for me to Praise the LORD for the rain–everyone got one yesterday. That’s two for us this week. We got 1 inch on Thursday and an inch and a half today. THANK YOU JESUS.
  • VBS meeting this morning at 9:00 in Sanctuary.
  • Vote on Search Team today–9:00-10:30

Fisher’s Of Men

May 11, 2016

And Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

~Mark 1:17, NASB

Believers can be tempted by evil but most often we are tempted by good.

Prophecy is fascinating and it sells books by the truck load. Bible study is intriguing and is both gratifying and fulfilling but both are introverted activities that can consume our time and passion. Some believers crave more knowledge when they are not using what they have: they go from book to book, bible study to bible study but cannot tell you when, if ever, they have shared the gospel with a lost soul. Why do we crave more knowledge for ourselves when some have no knowledge at all because we have never shared the gospel with them? If you spend an entire year studying prophecy, you wouldn’t know anymore at the end of the year than you do now.

Many professing believers are naive when it comes to Satan’s tactics, he has no problem seducing us with good things. He is not going to waste time trying to get you drunk or in bed with someone else’s spouse. He knows your pride, your sense of honor but he will tempt you to become obsessed with something good in order to keep you from doing what Jesus called you to do.

I don’t know who is more useless to the kingdom, Deeper Lifers or Reforms? Both are obsessed with their own personal growth to the neglect of getting the gospel to others. Both move men toward pride and contempt for others instead of compassion for others. The litmus test: when did you last express deep interest in the salvation of someone other than yourself? As Missionary legion Clyde Dotson once said, “If twenty men are carrying a log and nineteen are on one end, what kind of call do you need to help the man who carries half the load by himself.” The deeper lifers are “praying about it” and Reforms aren’t moved at all, “God predestined him to carry that end of the log.” Remember what God told Moses at the Red Sea, “This is no time for a prayer meeting, tell the children of Israel to move forward.” Prayer is never a substitute for obedience. If God says, “Go, we go. We can pray on the way.” Amen.

Do you know what it means when one of the Bible Study mongers tells you they are going to ‘pray about something’ you have asked them to do like work in VBS: it means they have no intention of doing it but they do not want their disobedience known so they hid it under the spiritual cloak of prayer. Yeah, right. Get off of your seat, on to your feet and get moving.

  • Another beautiful Spring Day: Thank You Jesus.
  • My Aunt Angie was promoted last evening just minutes after June and I left their house. She was a good woman and I celebrate her flight to Jesus. He was so special to her and I know she is special to HIM. Pray for my uncle Billy.
  • My Sister Joy had a hip replaced yesterday, she is recovering in Athens Limestone Hospital.
  • I think Jerry Randolph came home last evening.

Ten Do Nots In Matthew Six

November 16, 2015

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

~Matthew 6:34, NLT

God does not reveal His will to the curious and careless, but to those who are ready and willing to obey.

~Warren W. Wiersbe

I am a list maker and a note taker. As I read Matthew 6 yesterday morning, these DON’T of Jesus jumped out at me.

  1. Don’t do good deeds to be seen of men.
  2. Don’t call attention to your acts of charity.
  3. Don’t boast about what you give.
  4. Don’t pray insincerely or for show.
  5. Don’t babble, get to the point.
  6. Don’t act like a hypocrite.
  7. Don’t publicize your piety.
  8. Don’t store up earthly treasures.
  9. Don’t attempt to serve two masters.
  10. Don’t worry.

  • Another great Sunday–two great messages. Yesterday mornings sermon is the most relevant message I have heard on the condition of the modern church. You can hear the audio by going to and clicking on the link that Catfish has set up–preachers, it will be worth your time to listen. We also give thanks for the one baptism and the one profession of faith. One per Sunday would give us 52 on the year: I’d take that in a heart beat.
  • Our new Media Pastor is doing a great job but he may have to take that turkey down. That is a delicious looking bird.
  • A call to prayer for Gary Garner…Gary had a rough week last week. Let’s all pray for Gary. Kane goes to Memphis on Wednesday.
  • I got to drive the van last night–Bill is at Disney World. I had 8 and all eight want to come to the Luke 14 banquet next Sunday night. We have a good time on the van. Jeremy and Dian get a little loud sometimes but they are always happy. Sissy asked Dian if she ate some chocolate at AWANA because she was bouncing off the walls in the van, she said yes. Don’t give Dian chocolate or caffeine–she doesn’t need it. I will need a reminder next Sunday evening and I will need reminding to take them home also.
  • The GOLDEN GIRLS and SENIOR ADULT Christmas Party is at Cracker Barrel on Saturday December 5th.   Let’s make it 9:00 am. Your meal is your Christmas Present. No fruit or cakes this year. My baker has retired.
  • There is a station out of Birmingham that plays Christmas Music and has Delilah on at night. She was talking about the seven love languages last night. I don’t remember hearing all seven at one time. Her program is great listening around THANKSGIVING.
