America, Bless God!

May 7, 2016

Israel, you have forgotten the God who rescued you and protects you like a mighty rock.

~Isaiah 17:10, GNT

Some things are not worth remembering while other things must not be forgotten.

Isaiah said in chapter one, “Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes his master’s care–but Israel doesn’t know its master and they don’t recognize the one who gives them care.” God has been especially good to the sons of Israel. He redeemed them from bondage in Egypt, He lead them for 40 years in the wilderness: if ever a country was blessed by God, it was Israel. Unfortunately, the Israelites were dumber than an ox; even a Jackass had more sense than the ungrateful Israelites.

I’m a student of the American revolution. Our founding fathers were viewed as traitors by the Crown. The English would not recognize the continental army as a viable force and mocked George Washington our commander-in-chief. They were simply referred to as ‘rebels.’ No one thought the colonies had a chance, not even a slim chance of gaining their independence. The English probably underestimated the resolve of the Patriots but the greatest factor in the war was divine providence. Even Washington knew that we were not supposed to win.

Like Israel, we are a nation born out of divine providence and like Israel, we have forgotten the God who rescued us from the tyranny of king George and has protected us these 240 years by His grace and mercy. My generation has witness a moral decline that is mind boggling. First, there was Roe V. Wade and the conspiracy of the Supreme Court to rob the unborn of their rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. A decade later, the gays came out of the closet and began marching down main street with the approval of media and politicians. Then came the barbaric practice of partial birth abortion. Now we have the trans-gender movement, gay marriage and the mass immigration of Muslims. I never dreamed that we would be discussing these things in my life time.

We are still singing God Bless America but we have no intention of Blessing the God who made this country great. One day, we will repent with bitter tears but by then, America, the Great Republic and bastion of freedom, will be a memory.

How Could We Forget?

January 4, 2013

SCRIPTURE: But My people have forgotten me too many times to count. [Jeremiah 2:32, ERV]

QUOTE: “Begin with not honoring God’s day and you will soon cease to honor God’s book; cease to honor God’s book, and by-and-by you will give God no honor at all. ~J.C. Ryle

COMMENTARY: Does a young woman forget to put on her make up or her jewelry when she is going out? Does a bride forget to put on her wedding dress on her wedding day? God told Jeremiah, “My people have done an amazing thing: they have forgotten their God.” How do you forget God? How can you forget your Savior Jesus Christ? How many days can you go without thinking about God? Can you go a day, a week or a month?

Can you imagine the pain of being forgotten? Being in the military, yet forgotten…being in the nursing home, yet forgotten…being an aging parent and forgotten. It has to sting to be forgotten.

God had been good to Israel. He had treated them with favor and kindness; yet they did what no other nation had done, they forgot their God. Read Jeremiah 2 and count the parallels between ancient Israel and America: it will put the fear of God in you.

EXTRA: Incredible day yesterday! The six platoons that graduate today began yesterday morning with a four mile run. They finish by running down the main street of Parris Island [it does have two r’s no matter what spell check says]. It is the first time that parents, girl friends or grandparents get to see their sons or daughters. Two platoons were female. Lara spotted Seth first. I was trying to catch it on video but I jumped when Lara spotted him, he saw us and gave us the power sign [right fist in the air]. I don’t think he was supposed to do that but he did and he hollowed “Hi Mom”. It was a very emotional moment. After a long-long wait, we got to see him about 10:45 and he was given liberty until 2:45. I saw the word liberty in a whole new light. Not much you can do on the Island and you can’t leave. It rained all day and so our picnic was almost spoiled but in the nick of time, our party planner, Alias Betty R.,  spotted a pavilion near the entrance of the Island. There was one pavilion open and we got it! TYJ! Of all things, Seth wanted taco’s and Holly brought him 12. He ate an entire pumpkin pie that Big Mama had brought, 12 taco’s, I don’t know how chocolate covers cherry’s and a MD’s apple pie that Kelsey brought him. The last thing he asked for was the bibles for his buddies and we gave him an entire box. I thought that I had written him a lot but Kelsey wrote him everyday. Can you believe that…everyday. Way to go Kelsay Ray, you made my day. I don’t think Parris Island had ever seen a Fagan/Bailey mix. I will not say that the boy is stubborn but he has a lot of determination.

Today is graduation day but also a travel day: keep praying! You got us here, now please pray us home. Big Mama says she is never leaving Danville again.

Oh Happy Day! Thank YOU Jesus.

Oh Happy Day! Thank YOU Jesus.

ONE YEAR AGO: Weather was cold with a lot of wind. I was reading the prophet Jeremiah in NRSV–amazing, I reading it in Moffat now! Our Wednesday night study was in Hebrews.

Greed Is A Bad Seed

November 27, 2012

SCRIPTURE: But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ [Matthew 21:38, NIV]

QUOTE: For the greedy, the world is not enough. ~Anonymous

COMMENTARY: The wicked tenants in Jesus parable are guilty of many things but at the base is greed, that unsatisfiable lust for more. These wicked tenants were merely servants or share cropper, the vineyard belonged to the Master. Note the list of foolish mistakes that they make: [1] They refuse to pay rent which was an act of rebellion. [2] They mistreat  the masters servants. [3] They murder his son. [4] Take ownership of the vineyard. Jesus told this story for the benefit of the Jewish religious leaders who were very greedy and filled with rebellion. Christ’s servants think others… “Who can I help today?” The world’s philosophy is “How can I help myself today?” There is a vast difference between the two: the world is motivated by greed and the disciples of Christ are motivated by love. Al Gore is wrong, this is not “Our planet,” bless his heart. We are in the LORD’s vineyard and we are His servants. Oh yes, we are accountable. The MASTER will return and there will be a day of reckoning. Repent and pay your rent. Today look for someone who you can help out not for someone who can help you out.

EXTRA: Thank You Jesus for the rain. There was a gentle rain falling when I came in last night and it is falling this morning. It is just what we need. God is good. Day 51 for Seth with 38 to go. It is looking better all the time.

June finally got around to decorating our den: not!

June 26, 2012

SCRIPTURE: The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God. [Psalm 9:17, NKJV]

QUOTE: Cease to honor God’s day, and you will soon not honor God’s house; cease to honor God’s house, and you will soon cease to honor God’s word; cease to honor God’s word, and you will cease to honor God. ~J.C. Ryle

COMMENTARY: At the time Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize he was asked the question, “What made it possible for the Russian Revolution to take place and for Communism to rise to power?” Solzhenitsyn’s reply was simple and direct: “Men forgot God.” I am very concerned that we have forgotten God here in America. It is very disturbing to think that God may be using Obama to judge us for this very sin.  If that is true, you have to admit that we are deserving of such a judgment. Let’s just pray that it is not true and that there are enough God fearing people left in America to vote him out of office.

EXTRA: Cold front coming in today, going to go all the way down to 90 degrees, then they are projecting that it will go right back up to over 100 by the week end. Our garden is burning up. We are trying to keep as much as possible alive but I think we are fighting a losing battle. Lord willing, this time next year, I will have an irrigation system of some kind. I sure wish some of that rain from the gulf would find its way north. Teddy is getting all the rain. The bible says it rains on the just [us] and the unjust [them]. I confess that I don’t read comments often but I do appreciate your comments and your reading the blog.
