Prayer For REVIVAL in America

Prayer For REVIVAL in America

“Don’t be afraid of people. They can kill the body, but they cannot kill the soul. The only one you should fear is God, the one who can send the body and the soul to be destroyed in hell.

~Matthew 10:28, ERV

“Nothing is more dangerous…than to live in the temperamental atmosphere of a Gallup Poll—always feeling one’s pulse and taking one’s temperature.”

~Winston Churchill

Os Guinness wrote a book entitled The Call in which he discusses man’s tendency toward narcissism which often times reveals itself in our love for praise and approval. Guinness tells of Marlene Dietrich, a German-born American actress who lived from 1901-1992. She had recorded the applause from all her theatrical appearances and would play the record when friends came to visit. After each round of applause, she would identify the play and city where it was performed. We are so concerned with man’s approval that we give little thought to pleasing God. We are so bound by our fear of disapproval that we are afraid to be ourselves. This inordinate man-fearing spirit has inhibited our worship and hindered our fellowship. We are afraid to be open and honest because we fear men more than we fear God. Dallas Willard says that this fear of man renders us impotent, leaving us with little power to change the world.

SEE YOU AT THE POLE this morning. I will be with the little fellows at the elementary school. Not to late to sign up for supper tomorrow night. Supper at 5:30 [Chick-Fil-A or cheeseburger], AWANA at 6:15 [AWANA Store opening tomorrow night], the Gathering at 6:30 and breakouts at 6:50.

Fear of God

MyHope coming November 2013

SCRIPTURE: Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding. [Proverbs 9:10, NLT]

QUOTE: God is not mean, but He is dangerous. ~Dallas Willard

COMMENTARY: In Romans 3 Paul talks about man’s depravity which is from tongue to toe. No one understands, no one seeks God and no one does good, not even one. We lie with the tongue, there is poison under our lips. Our mouth is full of cursing and bitterness, our feet are swift to shed blood, destruction and misery are in our path. We do not know how to achieve peace and there is no fear of God to restrain us. The Proverb above states clearly that the “Fear of the LORD” is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One results in understanding.  Dallas Willard says, “We are beginning to get smart when we fear crossing God.” Do you have a fear of not doing His will? A truly wise person realizes that his or her well-being lies in being in harmony with God. God is not mean but He is serious about sin and how it affects His kingdom and what it did to His Son. Electricity or nuclear power are not mean but they are dangerous. When we follow the rules and respect their power, they can indeed be a blessing but we must keep in mind that electricity and nuclear power are dangerous and should be respected with some sense of fear. A person who does not worry about what God thinks isn’t smart.

EXTRA: There are a lot of hurting people and some that I would like for you to remember in prayer. I had a good visit with Penny Hazel yesterday and I was very impressed with her spirit. She has to lay on her back 24-7 and she has pain with almost every movement. She has not been able to eat since her surgery and will not be able to eat for some time but her spirit was incredible. She has tremendous faith in Christ. I went in to encourage her but she encouraged me. I think she may get to come home in a few days. She is a sweet lady with an optomistic attitude and I ask you to say a prayer for Penney. Also, I would like for you to remember my dear friend Bobby and Cyble Anders. They have been through so much the past few months and Cyble is battling bone cancer. They are gracious people.
