The Magic Word

March 12, 2016

But the Lord said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’ The crowd listened until Paul said that word. Then they all began to shout, “Away with such a fellow! He isn’t fit to live!”

~Acts 22:21-22, NLT

Contempt is the failure to show respect for something or someone that others feel is important.

It was not true of the Patriarchs or the ancient Israelites but some where in the process, the Tribe of Judah and its affiliates [Benjamin and Levi–known since the Babylonian Captivity as JEWS] became very contemptuous of anyone who was not Jewish. We Gentiles were dogs and the Samaritans were less. There is no better example of this contempt than in Acts 22.

Paul was framed, arrested and saved from an angry Jewish mob by Gentiles [Roman Centurion]. The Romans literally pulled Paul from the fray and was carrying him up a flight of stairs to safety when Paul begged for an opportunity to speak to the angry mob. Paul addressed them in Aramaic and they got quiet. Paul begins with the confession that he is Jewish, a student of Gamaliel, zealous for the Torah and the Sanhedrin. He talked about his Jewish heritage, the law of Moses and the temple. Then he mentions the death of Stephen and then the bomb, Paul tells them that God called him to be a missionary to the Gentiles.

That word GENTILE set them off, they went into a rage, tearing their clothes and throwing dirt in the air while screaming, “Away with this man, he is not fit to live.” I don’t think it is fair to accuse all Jews of having contempt for Gentiles but it was true of the Jewish Religious leaders and the rich elites. To be honest, I don’t think anything has changed.

After Peter’s vision and the conversion of Cornelius [A roman soldier and Gentile], the apostle said, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right.” Jesus loves everyone, Jew or Gentile–this is the essence of the gospel.

  • Can I get a PRAISE JESUS for this great weather!
  • I came across this accidently…Jimmy {no brain} Carter–“The mistreatment of women is the number one human rights abuse.” OK Jimmy, we have murdered over 54 million babies, something you approve, and you are upset that Southern Baptist don’t allow women to be pastors and deacons. I do not think the JUDGE is going to agree with you on this one. No one is America should be more thankful for Obama than Carter. Obama is the one man that will keep Jimbo from being the worse president in American history. I don’t understand why the man don’t crawl in a hole and keep his mouth shut.
