Scripture

But that does not mean we want to dominate you by telling you how to put your faith into practice. We want to work together with you so you will be full of joy, for it is by your own faith that you stand firm.

~2 Corinthians 1:24, NLT

Quote

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.

What does Allen Iverson, Stephon Marbury, Dwyane Wade, Carlos Bozer, Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Emeka Okafor, Shawn Marion, Amar’e Stoudemire, Tim Duncan, Lamar Odom, and Richard Jackson have in common. They were members of the 2004 U.S.A. Olympic men’s basketball team, all NBA all stars playing against amateurs, projected to go undefeated. The only question was the margin of victory. WRONG! They lost three of their seven games by a margin of 33 points. One game was a blow out and the last was never close. You can see the highlights on YouTube. The difference: the Americans were all stars with huge egos, concerned about stats and publicity. They played as individuals whereas Argentinians played as a team. To my knowledge, Emanuel David Ginóbili is the only member of the Argentine team to play in the NBA.

How could such a thing happen? Synergy, we accomplish more working together than when we do our own thing. The American’s had five men doing their own thing while the Argentinians worked together. The root word for Synergy is used 34 times in the N.T. Paul assured the Corinthians that he did not want to dominate them but work together with them.

Several years ago a brilliant Mormon, by the name of Steven Covey, took this biblical concept of synergy and incorporated it into his SEVEN HABITS FOR HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE. Given time, I think I can prove that all seven came from the bible.

Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, working together is success.”

  • Baptism schedule: Blake this Sunday, Sydni March 6, Seth March 13, Gigi March 20 and Mylee March 27, April 3 will be Sissy Lord willing
  • Did you know–the Washington Cathedral is probably the last pure Gothic Cathedral that will ever be constructed was built from small donations from private citizens over a period of 97 years.
  • Joe David will be preaching both services Sunday. I should be home on Sunday morning but I begin a BIBLE STUDY at my home church on Sunday night. I had a rough time on the van route last night. I came with in a spat of getting stuck twice. I’ll be glad when the time changes. A little daylight will help.
  • Continue to pray for Gary Garner, Buford Burgess and Angie Blackburn.
