He Made Himself A Target

Scripture

The law says we are under a curse for not always obeying it. But Christ took away that curse. He changed places with us and put himself under that curse. The Scriptures say, “Anyone who is hung on a tree is under a curse.”

~Galatians 3:13, ERV

Quote

“There is no sin in hero worship as long as Jesus is your Hero.”

~Ya’akov

Twenty years ago, I had a son-in-law who hung a target on a tree in his back yard. It was a small tree, about 8 inches in diameter and He had a high powered rifle. He would load the rifle aim at the target. That target and tree took a lot of abuse.

The tree in our case was the cross and Jesus became the target.

When Jesus went to the cross [tree], He took our sin, shame, cowardice, punishment, blame, and enmity. Jesus made Himself the target in our behalf. Think of all the insults that were hurled at him, think of the sneers, the mocking but He endured more more, so much more. Jesus became a curse for  our behalf. He became a target for all the hate and animosity in this sin twisted world.

Do you ever feel hated and despised? You should, they hated and despised Jesus. But the contempt we feel from this world of haters is nothing compared to what He felt. Men still hate HIM but praise God they can’t hurt HIM. Kind of makes you homesick doesn’t it. LORD Jesus either You are coming to me or I’m coming to You–either way, it will not be long. The old spiritual “Soon and Very Soon” comes to my mind:

Soon and very soon, we are going to meet the KING.

Soon and very soon, we are going to meet the KING.

No more crying there, we are going to meet the KING.

No more dying there–we are going to meet the KING.

Hallelujah, hallelujah.–we are going to meet the KING.

We aren’t talking Elvis or Martin Luther–we are talking about the real KING.
