Little By Little

October 9, 2015

I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land.

~Exodus 23:29-30, NASB

Life is made up of little things. It is very rarely that an occasion is offered for doing a great deal at once.

~Francis Lytle

If God had driven out the seven Canaanite Nations at once, it would have created a vacuum because there were not enough Israelites to populate the land. The LORD said, “I will drive them out little by little.” God can work in an instant. He can perform the miraculous, the astounding, the sensational but He seldom chooses to work in such fashion. Most often God works via the process: little by little He molds us into the image of Christ. We hike through the forest to admire the beauty of God’s creative genius; we do not walk through the woods to see the trees grow. Are the trees in the forest growing? Yes, but they grow little by little. There growth is in such small increments that we cannot observe their growth. Be encouraged saints: God never gets in a rush.

  • Yesterday was a travel day. I carried three of my four sisters to Douglasville for Uncle Floyds COLS. It was a good service. Jesus was exalted time and again by preachers and singers. I always knew him as Uncle Floyd but his nickname in Douglasville was “Gentleman Jim”. His full name was James Floyd Bailey. Aunt Lucille and family called him Floyd but friends called him Jim. “Thank YOU Jesus for a safe trip in heavy traffic.” I don’t mind traveling alone but I really enjoyed my sisters: they made the trip short.
  • Leon Livingston is very sick. They did change his medication and he was easy last evening. Leon is at a stage where there are very limited options. Pray for Brenda, Keith, Tammy and Alan.
  • Bill Wilbourn is a tad better but not feeling good by any stretch of the imagination. Gary Chaney’s father in law is in ICU at DGH. I went in looking for Caleb and providentially ran into Gary’s wife. It happened again yesterday: I am on the elevator going up and a cleaning lady over heard a conversation I was having with someone else and she asked me to pray for her…Just pray for Margaret, its a new job and she is having trouble pleasing her supervisor. She was really stressed out.
  • I think Kelvin Callahan had to stay an extra night. I think there is a problem with swelling and pain.
  • KANE UPDATE: Kane is better today. He lost the two antibiotics. Gained some medicine they think they have the combination to fix him. We are hoping to be home by Next weekend. This is the light at the end of this tunnel. Pray for it to get brighter and his stomach and gut respond to these meds!
  • Twenty-six for the College Bible Study last night.
