Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

~Romans 12:1, NIV

Sacrifice is the ecstasy {rapture, joy, bliss} of giving the best we have to the one we love most.

my thoughts red

There are not that many verses where I favor the NIV but Romans 12:1 is one of them. I want you to note the word ‘offer; the NASB says ‘present’ and the NLT reads ‘give’. None are bad translations but the word offer makes me thing of the Sunday offering which is our giving time in worship. In the O.T. animals were sacrificed by the thousands. Both Isaiah and Jeremiah understood that the sacrificial system was not exactly what God wanted…

“What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?” Says the LORD. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle; and I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs or goats.” [Isaiah 1:11]

“For what purpose does frankincense come to Me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable and your sacrifices are not pleasing to Me.” [Jeremiah 6:20]

Animal were sacrificed as innocent beast: they had no thought or consciousness of what was going on. God wants a willing sacrifice. He wants you to offer yourself as a living sacrifice with the emphasis on life and your free will. Today, He wants you to present yourself to HIM so that your life can be an offering to HIM. Yes, He chooses a select few to be martyrs but for the most part, He wants us to be a living sacrifice. It is our first act of worship.

  • What about this rain: can you believe it? I feel blessed that we got the BLOCK PARTY in, amen!
  • Some of the dates are wrong in the bulletin and its my fault: The GOLDEN GIRLS are setting their own dates so we need to make a few changes: our next meeting is August 29, no September meeting, October 10 and November 7.
  • TRUNK-A-TREAT is October 31…5:00-6:00
  • REVIVAL is November 1-4
  • This Sunday we have one offering and it all goes to pave the parking lot. Our goal is $30,000.
  • This Sunday is also election day and the vote of the inversion of worship and LCBS. Polls open at 9:00 and close at 10:20. The proposal was in last Sunday’s bulletin.

Confederate Flag Cake

Confederate Flag Cake

In that spirit, I’d like to issue a challenge to this audience: how many of you can get a bakery near you to make a Confederate flag cake? If Christian bakers in the United States are now being forced to make same-sex wedding cakes that violate their religious beliefs, surely it’s incumbent upon all bakers to honor a request for a Confederate flag cake that pays homage to some Americans’ heritage. Give it your best shot, and send your stories and photos to We’ll share some of the highlights with the group. Let’s see how “equal” protection really is these days in the United States of America. [Check on the link below for full article]
