Joseph was sold as a slave. They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.

~Psalms 105:17-19, NLT

Character is what you are when no one is around.

my thoughts red

Character vs. reputationJoseph was the favorite son, a little spoiled, highly gifted with perhaps a tad of arrogance but the kid was as straight as and arrow and very trustworthy. His brothers were many things but trustworthy was not one of them. Joseph was 17 when his brothers betrayed him and deceived their father. Human trafficking has always been big business and the Ishmaelites put shackles on Joseph’s feet and a iron collar around his neck. They carried him to Egypt where he was auctioned to Potiphar. Little did Potiphar know that he had the most valuable slave in the known world. Mrs. Potiphar accuses Joseph of attempted rape and Joseph lands in jail. Joseph never complains but patiently waits for God to vindicate him which he does after Joseph has served as a slave for 13 years. When I think of Character, Joseph and Job come to mind. I challenge you to find a great person who has not be tested severely like Joseph and Job. We do need great men but I do not want to be one. I have not done well on small test and I don’t want to be tested severely.

People judge us by our reputation but God goes by character.
