Jesus said, “There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury.  At his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores. As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man’s table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.”

~Luke 16:19-21, NLT

There is a Lazarus at every man’s gate.

my thoughts red

One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let’s go out into the fields.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him. Afterward the Lord asked Cain, “Where is your brother? Where is Abel?” “I don’t know,” Cain responded. “Am I my brother’s guardian?”

To answer Cain’s question, “Yes, we are our brother’s guardian.” Divies felt no responsibility to help Lazarus and didn’t. I’m not sure he knew Lazarus was there but if he did not, he should have. Who is laying at your gate?

Great LCBS lesson today: the lesson prompted this question, “Are you doing all that you should be doing by giving to the church?” I would say by giving a tithe but that leaves 90% of you out. Some times we throw a few bucks in the offering plate and assume our responsibilities to our fellowman are covered; not really. You need to look around and find your Lazarus and you personally need to help him or her.

  • Today we pray for SENIORS
  • Kenny is about the same, very weak, very sore all over. He had a lot of pain yesterday and has lost even more weight. He is a trooper: most folks would have given up but he hangs in there. Pray for Kenny, his mom Ona and Sheila and the boys. When I left last night, Sheila was working in the kitchen and the boys were watching a movie. I said “Guys, doesn’t it bother you to see a woman work while your watching TV.” They both laughed and said, “No, not really.” Ken said, “I may have to turn the TV up if she gets too loud.” Those boys are pistols.
  • Regular schedule today: 8:15 Deacons meeting, LCBS at 9:15 and worship at 10:15 and 6:00. Jesus Lament Over Jerusalem this am and Matthew 24 tonight.
  • LCBS classes take some time to day to talk about your party and project. We are shooting for February 22 as our Party night and you have until Easter to get your first project done. Take time to pray for others before you start and fill out a prayer sheet.
