Day 8 of 24

SCRIPTURE

One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority.

~Matthew 16:1, NLT

QUOTE

Christ never failed to distinguish between doubt and unbelief. Doubt is can’t believe. Unbelief is won’t believe. Doubt is honesty. Unbelief is obstinacy. Doubt is looking for light. Unbelief is content with darkness.

~Henry Drummond

my thoughts red

The Pharisees did not believe that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God. They believed He was a fraud, a pretender, a charlatan and they hounded Him about doing more signs and miracles. The kingdom of God was in their grasp and they missed it because of their unbelief. They did not believe that John the Baptist was sent by God, nor did they believe that Jesus was sent by God. After Pentecost and the coming of the Spirit, they continued in their unbelief by resisting the Spirit and murdering Stephen. Dr. Warren Wiersbe points out that this was the unpardonable sin for this generation of Jews: in essence they had rejected the prophets [John], the Father who sent John and Jesus, the Son and then the Holy Spirit. Chalk all this up to their unbelief.

Unbelief is not a good sin. It kept Israel out of Canaan. It kept the Pharisees out of heaven. Hebrews 3:12 gives us this warning…Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart. Did you get that? Unbelief is a deadly evil.

  • Today we pray for those having TRIALS. If you get a moment, pray for my friend Barney who is in pain 24/7. Pray for Kenny Holladay who had a chemo yesterday and is now supposed to get a break. Pray for Larry Garner who goes for chemo today. Pray for Daphne Turrentine Hutto who has an aggressive chemo on October 20 [Next Monday]. Also on the cancer list from the prayer sheets: Laney Morgan, Sonja Holladay, Jack Steel, and Jenny Hames. Also remember my aunt Angie and Uncle Floyd who are battling cancer.
  • SUNDAY IS PINK OUT OR PINK IT UP!
  • FRONT PEW SHOWER for Sav-A-Life this Sunday. I was going to run a list of items you can bring but the list is gone. I know you can bring diapers. This is a good cause and we need to give them our support. We appreciate Sally leading us. I think this is a JUDEA PROJECT.
  • We have another SAMARITAN PROJECT coming October 25. Gary and team are going to Birmingham to carry blankets, coats etc. I don’t like to ask you to bring two things on one Sunday but this is the last Sunday before the project.
  • I got in a habit of doing the blogs when I came home from work but the prayer wheel forced me to go to bed early. I have been doing them between mid-night and 4:00 am but last night I crashed. My head is clearer in the morning. I may do them in the mornings from now until the REVIVAL. This would also give me a proof reader.
