SCRIPTURE

You never saw Him, yet you love Him. You still don’t see Him, yet you trust Him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation.

~I Peter 1:8-9, MSG

QUOTE

A day is coming when the followers of Christ will have it all.

~Eugene L. Peterson

my thoughts red

Peter saw Jesus in the flesh but he preached to thousands who had never had a visible encounter yet they believed in a Messiah they had never seen. The gospel has not lost it’s power and folks are still responding to Jesus by faith. I like the story of the little boy who came home from Sunday School: “What did your teacher talk about his morning,” asked his mom. Without hesitation, the little fellow said, “Jesus and germs and I have never seen either one of them.” The little fellow was right, you can’t see them but they are very real.

Peter was a natural born leader but he was a little rough around the edges. Jesus had to rebuke him on more than one occasion but the transformation that takes place in Peter’s life is nothing short of incredible. After the death and resurrection of Christ, Peter became a bold preacher and the primary leader of the church. Given his charisma and powerful influence, he could have taken advantage of his position and promoted himself to a place of prominence. This is a temptation that many religious leaders yield to but not Peter. The leader of the 12 exhibits the humble qualities of the servant life taught him by Christ and was always ready to help others and embrace suffering for the glory of God. He never used his office for personal gain.
