SCRIPTURE

The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught. Then Jesus said, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” He said this because there were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn’t even have time to eat.

~Mark 6:30-31

QUOTE

“If we don’t come a part, we fall a part.”

~Vance Havner

MY THOUGHTS

Dr. Jack Taylor said repeatedly, “Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap.” Junior Hill says, “I have doubts about a man’s salvation if he doesn’t take an evening nap.” Of course Junior was kidding but sometimes a rest is what Jesus prescribes. When you start getting impatient and frayed around the edges, it is time for a break. I had a feeling that last night was going to be hard on a 65 year old so I went home yesterday evening and went to bed, straight to bed and stayed there for and hour and a half. It is a good thing I did because we worked until 9:30 last night. I started reading my LCBS lesson last Saturday evening and finally laid the book down and went to bed. After a two hour rest, I got up and started studying. When you get exhausted, your creative juices stop flowing and the best thing to do is take a break.

I’m not encouraging everyone to take a break, just those who have been working and are exhausted. One fellow when ask what he did said, “Well, I do nothing Monday through Saturday and then I rest on Sunday.” Where some need to rest, others need to get busy. In a way, doing nothing is more tiring than working.

  • Work night went well: we needed two more drills. The men are going back tonight at 6:00. Hopefully we will get the steel hung and the ramp in place. We will not get the railing tonight, I don’t think.
  • YOUTH get in tomorrow evening.
  • Sunday is FRONT PEW SHOWER for Kids Closet at school. Non-refrigerated snacks, underwear, tennis shoes, socks. We will do coats later.
