SCRIPTURE

When Isaac grew up and was about to be weaned, Abraham prepared a huge feast to celebrate the occasion.

MY THOUGHTS

When I was growing up in the 50’s, parents did not do birthday parties every year. In our family, you got two: one at age 6 and the other at age 16. The 16th was always a surprise party. Mother had thrown a surprise 16th for all the older siblings but I must not have paid attention. On a Sunday night after church, my friend Jerry said, “Let’s go to town and get a milk shake which I was more than happy to do. I will never forget, all the lights were off when we pulled up the drive. Jerry and I go in, the lights come on and  50 screaming teenagers start shouting happy birthday. That’s all I remember, I went into shock. Don’t surprise me; I hate surprises but I don’t hate celebrations. One of the many reasons I love being a Christian is all the celebration. We celebrate Jesus birth–man, I love Christmas–we celebrate His resurrection and call it Easter. Actually, we celebrate it every Sunday. As the good father in the story of the Prodigal Son said, We have to celebrate.”  Let me ask you a question: who would you prefer hanging out with, the Father who loved to celebrate or the carping Elder brother who loved to find fault with others and extol his own virtues? There is nothing wrong with Abraham and Sarah celebrating Isaac’s pre-school milestone. There are too many Elder Brothers in our churches. Loosen up, have a little fun! When God blesses you with an occasion of joy, celebrate it and give HIM the glory.

  • Jeremy passed his State Board exam…we are rejoicing.
  • YOUTH arrived safely at Toccoa Falls.
  • Finished the AWANA closet yesterday and sealed off the inside of the ramp. We are ready for a big work night on Wednesday. We have painting, cleaning, steal and carpenter work for you to do. If you don’t like any of the above, you can go get the pizza.
  • Mandy went right to work on BP 2014. I think she has our shirts designed. She has most of the wheels turning. We have only 25 days to get ready. We are going to follow the same basic format as last year. Wednesday night August 6 will be a work night and we begin setting up the GRACE BARN in the FORTE on Thursday night. You will have two days to bring your stuff. If possible have clothes on a hanger or folded and sorted. Actually you can begin bringing stuff Thursday night after 6:00 pm.

Democratic Cover Up or IRS Scandal

  • The odds of winning the Florida lottery are 1 in 22,957,480.
  • The odds of winning the Powerball is 1 in 175,223,510.
  • The odds of winning Mega Millions is 1 in 258,890,850.
  • The odds of a disk drive failing in any given month are roughly one in 36.
  • The odds of two different drives failing in the same month are roughly one in 36 squared, or 1 in about 1,300.
  • The odds of three drives failing in the same month is 36 cubed or 1 in 46,656.
  • The odds of seven different drives failing in the same month (like what happened at the IRS when they received a letter asking about emails targeting conservative and pro Israeli groups) is 37 to the 7th power = 1 in 78,664,164,096. (that’s over 78 Billion).
In other words, the odds are greater that you will win the Florida Lottery 342 times than having those seven IRS hard drives crashing in the same month.
And, the odds of a Democrat telling the truth are even higher.
