celebrate Jesus Son of God

How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands.

~Psalm 112:1, NLT

I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare.

~C.S. Lewis

my thoughts red

Paul quotes Psalm 112 in 2 Corinthians 9:9. Paul is challenging the Corinthians to be generous in their giving. When I went back and looked up the reference, I found something interesting in Psalm 112. We have the characteristics of the Godly, the God fearing who delight in obeying God’s commands.

  1. They and their children are successful.
  2. They are blessed.
  3. They stand out like a light in darkness.
  4. They are compassionate.
  5. They are righteous.
  6. They conduct business fairly.
  7. They overcome evil.
  8. They are long remembered.
  9. They are confident in the face of adversity.
  10. They are generous.

Three times the Psalmist says the Godly are generous [3,4,9] and their good deeds will be remembered forever. Forever is a long time. Wouldn’t you like to do something today that has eternal significance? What about a good deed for someone? If you will do it in Jesus name for His sake, it will be remembered forever.

  • All of Danville is in shock and grief for the family of Austin Cook, a 15 year old freshman to be that was killed accidentally early yesterday morning [June 24]. He was walking from his home in Punkin Center to Danville. It was before daylight, he had on his ear phones, two cars meet and they didn’t see him and evidently, he did not see them coming. I had no idea that anyone walked to football practice these days. I walked home a few times when I was in high school but that was 49 years ago. We will try to see what we can do to help today. We will keep you posted. Joe David went over yesterday but they were not home.
  • The Gathering tonight with Tyler and the boys. There is no way the child can duplicate last week but it will be good I am confident. Let’s pretend we are having REVIVAL and all show up.
  • Had a great visit with Kenny Holladay yesterday; very uplifting. We sat down at the table an ate a Klondike Bar. He had felt pretty good all week but tomorrow is his chemo and it brings him down. I do believe the boy will make another Bama game. He is amazing and so are his brothers and sisters. I have never seen a bunch of sibling stick together the way they do. It is encouraging to witness.
  • Due to the tragedy, I will not run a cartoon today.
