Go To Deeper Water

celebrate Jesus Son of God

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”

~Luke 5:4, NLT

If you yourself do not cut the lines that tie you to the dock, God will have to use a storm to sever them and send you out to sea.

~Oswald Chambers

my thoughts red

I remember Dr. H.H. Hobbs commentary on Hebrews 2:1 where he uses a river as an illustration. We spend our lives playing in the shallows near the bank while God’s redemptive purpose flows by: we miss it because we drift from the mainstream and get caught in the shallow things that have no eternal significance. Chambers uses a dock and the sea to illustrate the same point. We have to loosen the mooring ropes and get out of the safe harbor into the deep sea where the adventure of the unknown awaits us. If our first priority is safety and comfort, we will be of little use in the kingdom and we will never experience the abundant life that Jesus promised. God wants you to go places you’ve never been, see things you have never seen and do things you never attempted to do. C.S. Lewis said, “We are far too easily pleased. God wants better things for us. He finds our desires not too strong, but too weak.”

EXTRA animated

  • Anna Shaneyfelt had low potassium; she got dehydrated and these problems caused her to black out. Her family is relieved and thankful.
  • Kenny gets his 4th chemo treatment tomorrow. He has them every other Wednesday. He goes every Wednesday but he goes for fluids on the off weeks. I had misunderstood, I thought he was getting Chemo every Wednesday. He had a good weekend.
  • Jimmy Gilliland’s dad Jim was in DGH but got to go home late yesterday evening [June 10]: Debbie’s brother Bill is still there. I will be going to check on Bill today Lord willing.

Republican, in a wheelchair, entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked
the waitress for a cup of coffee. The Republican looked across the
restaurant and asked, “Is that Richard Roberts, the faith healer, sitting over there?”
The waitress nodded “yes,” so the Republican requested that she give Oral’s son a
cup of coffee, on him.

The next patron to come in was a Libertarian, with a twisted spine. He
shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a
coke. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, “Is that
Richard Roberts, Oral’s son, over there?”  The waitress nodded, so the Libertarian asked her to give Richard a coke
, “My treat.”

The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Democrat on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down, got out his phone and clicked on CNN to get the latest propaganda and hollered at the waitress, “Hey honey, you want to get me a cup of hot green tea? Then he too looked across the restaurant and asked, “Isn’t that Oral Roberts son over there, the one who heals people?” The waitress nodded, so the Democrat directed her to give Oral’s son a hot green tea. “On my bill, he said loudly.

As Roberts was leaving the restaurant, he passed by the Republican, touched him, and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Republican felt the strength come back into his legs, got up, and began to praise the Lord.

Roberts passed by the Libertarian, touched him, and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Libertarian felt his back straightening up, and he raised his hands, and he to began to praise the Lord.

Then, Roberts walked toward the Democrat, just smiling. The Democrat jumped up and yelled, “Don’t touch me … I’m on disability.”

For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not understand, no explanation is possible. [You got that right Bobby]
