Hanging Around For A Reason

April 21, 2014

celebrate Jesus Son of God

He restoreth my soul.

~Psalm 23:3, NKJV

Even when God deems it necessary to discipline us for persistent disobedience, He always does so out of love to restore us to the way of obedience.

~Jerry Bridges

my thoughts red

Jesus tarried for 40 days after His resurrection. His redemptive work was complete and the glory of heaven awaited, so why did He hang around? There are probably more reasons than I understand but one reason was to restore Peter who was the leader of the twelve. Peter was visibly shaken by his cowardice and denial of Christ. Peter was ashamed, embarrassed and laden with guilt. He had failed to keep a promise to a friend. He had disappointed himself and others. The once brash and cocky bird now walked around with his head down. He has gone from extreme self-confidence to no confidence at all. Peter is reeling from his miserable failure. He is reeling like a fighter who just took a right cross: he is staggering.

Jesus loved Peter too much to leave him is this condition so He takes the time to restore him. Some lessons can be learned from Peter’s experience:

    1. Peter is not the exception: he is the rule, we all fail miserably.
    2. Jesus knows about our failure and He is not shocked.
    3. Jesus wants to restore us not replace us or retire us.

EXTRA animated

  • Junior sent me a text on Easter evening: Mrs. Waneta Wayan did not pass away but they have planned a memorial service for both she and Alva is Tuesday evening at 4:00 P.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran in Decatur. Instead of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Paul’s Kitchen Fund.
  • Great crowd and two great services yesterday: I cannot express my thanksgiving but I will try. First I want to thank and praise the FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT. I assure you God answered some prayers so thank YOU LORD. A special thanks to Shohn who down loaded the videos for me, David for working on our computer, Frankie and Jarod for running the equipment. The band who always does a great job and the choir was outstanding. Mr. Hardy hit it out of the park and so did Haley and the Comets. We have David and the Giants and now Haley and the Comets. The Tapscott/Garnett cooking team did great. Jimmy and Sandra did great has host and hostess. Everyone gets an A+ except old Gregg and he gets a “Pretty Good.”
  • I probably will not be able to get out of bed in the morning [blogging on Sunday night] because I played tag and hide and seek with my grand kids for an hour. Ask Ryder Ace who is fastest, him or G-dog?
