How Big Is Your God?

January 28, 2014

And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

~Philippians 4:19, NASB

It’s not possible for us to experience all of the infinite Christ there is but we can experience more.

Charles Allen, in his book All Things Are possible Through Prayer, tells the story of a New York City shop keeper. As a young man in his twenties, he married and opened a little shop on a side street. He didn’t make a fortune but managed to make a living. He and his wife lived in an apartment on the East side. Six mornings a week he would get up, eat his breakfast, walk to the subway station, ride to work. His business never grew enough to require help so he always carried his lunch and stayed in the shop. At closing time, he locked up, walked to the subway station and rode home. He would eat his supper, read a little and then go to bed. The next day he did it all again. On Sundays he stayed inside the apartment and usually in bed. He did this for fifty years and then died in his early seventies.

New-york-Sunset-Coast-City-Landscape-Building-United-StatesHe lived in New York City, yet he never saw the Metropolitan Museum, Fifth Avenue, Time Square, Yankee Stadium, the Statue of Liberty, Broadway or the Empire State Building. When he said “My city”, he was talking about his apartment, shop and a subway ride. Think of all he missed due to his insecurity and narrow mind. When Paul said “My God” he was thinking about a God so infinite that He can meet every need of every human being on the face of the planet. When you say “My God,” what do you have in mind? How big is your God? The poor shop keeper experienced so little of New York and who was to blame?

  • God is good. I do praise Him for His infinite mercy.
  • Preston Grammer will be having heart surgery today; Princeton’s in Birmingham.
  • Joe David visited Dana Segars yesterday morning and said that she is better, PTL.
  • I visited Joyce Chaney in Moulton and she is doing great.
  • The LORD may have answered another prayer for us today. It will be a few days before I know but it will be a burden off our back.
  • LORD willing, be leaving for B’ham early today. Hope to be back in early evening.  The Blog host is in England so I can post from 6:00 PM the previous day and it will come up as the next day here. It is already Tuesday in England but some of you stay up late and read; so just keep in mind, I’m talking about Tuesday even if you read this on Monday night.
