Serve The LORD With Gladness

November 24, 2013

my hope Christmas

Serve the LORD with gladness.

~Psalm 100:2, NKJV

One thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve.

Albert Schweitzer

Serve the LORD with gladness: such a short verse yet so loaded with truth. We are not talking about any service, but serving the LORD so the first thing that has to be established is Lordship. We can serve many things even our selves but the key is to serve the LORD. Service is good but service with a right attitude is better: we are to serve the LORD Jesus with gladness.

We put in a handicap ramp Friday for a 91 year old lady in Speake. While we were there, one daughter was leaving and another coming in: the daughter leaving said, “Sorry, but I have to go to work.” Felton said, “You don’t have to go, you get to go.” She said no, “I have to go.” She is serving but not with gladness. She was working for money, Felton was working for fun and trust me, he had it.”

Remember: millions of people serve but they are not serving the LORD Jesus and fewer still are serving Him with gladness.

Joe David and I made the rounds yesterday and we don’t have any progress to report. Dana has been moved to the West Pavilion and into a room but her condition has not changed except for the reduction of some of the fluid and pressure. Charlie Thompson was not doing great either, he had a rough night on Friday. Penny Hazel was really low when I visited there in the a.m. and June got a call in the night saying that she was promoted. I grieve with her family but I am proud for Penny: she had suffered a lot. Visitation for the Brian Randolph Family is tonight [Sunday] 5:00-8:00 and the Celebration of Life Service in Monday at 2:00 at Neel Methodist which means you better get there early if you want to be inside.

LUKE 14 is at 5:30 pm. We are serving the CHILDREN’S HOME and Milestone Ministries. They tell me that this is the biggest day of the year for the Children’s Home so DBC, let’s not disappoint them. We’ve being doing this since 1987 or 88 and you have come through every year. I don’t see a problem with you doing both Luke 14 and the Randolph visitation unless you are on the clean up crew and then it may be a problem. We will start eating at 5:30 sharp and there is no program so you could be out by 6:30 easily.

No Deacons meeting this morning.

The Children will be joining us for worship this morning.
